Meet Lucy

LAVA is an online singing academy built around encouragement, individuality and the belief that every voice deserves to be heard.

Lucy Armstrong portrait

I’m Lucy, and music has always been a huge part of my life. I began professional singing lessons in 2011 and experienced first-hand how the right teacher can shape not only your voice, but your confidence too. Singing gave me belief in myself, helped me through difficult times and gave me the courage to perform and grow as a person.

I began teaching in 2013 and continued guiding students through 2016–2017. One of my most rewarding experiences was teaching singing to a class of 7–11-year-olds, supporting them with technique and performance and overseeing their end-of-term showcase. It showed me how powerful patient, positive teaching can be — and inspired me to create LAVA so I could offer others the same support and encouragement I was fortunate to receive.

My own journey includes a distinction in Grade 3 vocals, with my Grade 8 qualification currently underway, as well as writing and recording my own album. I’ve recorded singles and albums for charity, performed solo and with bands across England, and I’m proud to have been handpicked for both The X Factor and The Voice. I teach pop, musical theatre, contemporary and jazz, and can provide a full DBS check if required.

My mission

Confidence that goes beyond singing

My goal is to help every student become the best version of themselves as a singer, while building confidence that carries into everyday life.

Teaching singing is about far more than helping someone hit the right notes. Every student arrives with their own strengths, insecurities and goals, so I want lessons to feel like a safe place to make mistakes, ask questions and enjoy learning without fear of judgement. Whether you dream of performing professionally, are preparing for an audition or simply love singing for fun, I want you to leave every lesson feeling more confident than when you arrived.

What lessons cover

One-to-one teaching, shaped around you

LAVA offers online one-to-one singing lessons for children, teenagers and adults, making tuition accessible wherever you are based. No two voices — or people — are the same, so every lesson is adapted to your learning style, goals and pace rather than expecting you to fit one teaching method.

Alongside singing technique, I can help with audition preparation, performance coaching, songwriting, recording and production support.

  • Vocal technique
  • Breathing and vocal control
  • Confidence building
  • Performance skills
  • Song interpretation
  • Vocal health awareness
  • Audition preparation
  • Goal setting
  • Healthy practice techniques

Why choose LAVA

Encouraging, never intimidating

I know what it feels like to be the nervous student walking into a lesson for the first time, how daunting performing can feel and how easily self-doubt can get in the way. As a neurodivergent person who has experienced those feelings myself, I can genuinely relate to my students.

My teaching style is supportive and understanding because people learn best when they feel safe and accepted. I don’t expect perfection — I want progress.

Anxiety, autism, ADHD and other challenges can make traditional learning environments feel overwhelming. I want to remove those barriers and make every lesson somewhere you can relax, be yourself and enjoy singing.

LAVA is for anyone who loves singing

  • Teenagers preparing for performances or auditions
  • Adults who have always wanted to sing but have never had the confidence

I’m noticing a real improvement in my vocal technique, confidence, and overall understanding of how a singing voice really works.Lucy is always encouraging and takes the time to explain things clearly, while helping me work towards my individual goals.I would highly recommend her to anyone looking to develop their voice, whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to take your singing to the next level. Juliette, 63

Intermediate Singer

Lucy has been absolutely brilliant with my 9 year old. As a child with ADHD and autism, finding something they feel comfortable and confident doing can sometimes take time, but Lucy has been incredibly patient and understanding from the start. She adapts the lessons to keep them engaged without ever putting pressure on them, and it’s been lovely watching their confidence grow. Singing lessons have quickly become something they genuinely look forward to each week.

Sarah

Parent of Student

I’d never had a singing lesson before and genuinely thought I was probably too old to start! Lucy made me feel comfortable from the first lesson and explains everything in a way that actually makes sense. I’m singing things now that I wouldn’t have even attempted a few months ago. Couldn’t recommend her enough.
